Just watched [REC] 2 and while not as good as the first, they took the original concept and took it into an interesting direction. Well worth a watch!.

Also please check out Plague a rather fabulous UK short zombie film.

As discussed previously, the ending is shattering and Thomas Jane's performance (especially during the final few minutes) is fantastic.
I have one strong suggestion: Be sure to listen to director Frank Darabont's DVD commentary. Intelligent and informative. Seems like a nice guy, as well. Wish all commentaries were this good. |

Haven't said this in a few weeks, so...

Saw PoultryGeist a few nights ago at the Detroit Independent Film Festival. If was fun, but very gross. Lloyd Kaufman was there and spoke. He seemed like a nice guy. I was pleasantly surprised that most of the effects were pretty well done, and some of the songs (it's kind of a musical) weren't bad.

I've been hooked on this early 80's Sherlock Holmes TV series starring Geoffrey Whitehead and Donald Pickering. It's really rare - was only aired a few times, and mostly in foreign-language markets. i found a copy of the complete series from a dude on iOffer, and LOVE it. Recommend it for any fellow Holmesians (and I know there are many out there).
Tonight - KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS special edition... boo-yeah!

Just finished watching Demons, a nice little survival horror type film (though it was made before the term was coined). Basically, a bunch of movie goers are locked in the theater as members of the audience turn into demons and infect the others.
The movie doesn't really make a lot of sense, as it breaks it's own rules on occasion, but the effects are top notch and some of the over the top action moments as classic cheese from the 80's. Campy fun, if you're in the mood.

Just finished Pitch Black, first time in a long time. Some of the CGI really lacks realism; but overall, it still has some good scifi/horror quality.

I'd be quite interested to see [REC] 2. The original was one of the few shaky-cam movies I really enjoyed.
Caught up with the sequel to Cold Prey last night, Cold Prey II: Resurrection. I have to say I was afraid it would be a rather desperate cash-in like so many sequels but I was pleasantly surprised. The action follows immediately on from the first film and centres mostly on a nearby hospital. The acting remained top-notch and the sequel keeps the impressive sense of realism going from the first film. Again, we have strong female leads and even though the cops get involved it avoids becoming a gung-ho shoot-em-up. If you enjoyed the first one, you probably like this one.

Just got back from seeing Alice in Wonderland and..it was rather interesting.
Christopher Lee gets about 1.5 lines and I wish Alan Rickman had gotten more as well, but I loved Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat.
What they did with the Mad Hatter was a bit different as well, rather dark and violent stuff.
I liked it overall though.

Parting is such sweet sorrow, dearest. Still, you can't say we didn't show you a good time. Enjoy yourself out there... in the asylum. Just don't forget -- if it ever gets too tough... there's always a place for you here. |

I just finished The Man with the Screaming Brain. It wasn't as good as you think something like that would be. . .

It wasn't good, period.
I can't believe this was a film Bruce had been working on and trying to make for over a decade.
