Hi,im new here and i wonder will the boys be covering the PLANET OF THE APES franchise anytime soon? Hey whilst we are at it have the guys ever seen SUSPIRIA? How about an Italian horror episode!
Is it just me or is anyone else getting a feeling of deja vu? I feel like Luke on Dagobah.

I highly recommend it. I know Ted dismissed the sequels in the Apocalypse podcast, but the series as a whole hangs together far better than Friday, Nightmare or Halloween. Sure, Battle is kinda TV-movieish thanks to the budget, but it is a damn sight better than Friday 5, Freddy 6, or Halloween 5, 6, 8, and 10. If they can sit through those, they can make it through the ape saga.

Yip, This isnt a critisizm but we had 10 minuites + on a Kevin Costner baseball movie t'other week so im sure Apes with clubs in an apocalyptic future is within the boundaries of Horror ETC.

One of the most influential franchises in movie history... Inspiring 4 sequels, a TV series, comics, mass merchandising, pop culture as a whole... Apes must be covered!! LBR

Of course! The novel, altogether different from the film, was a sci-fi classic!
Burton's "Apes"...uh...looked good...that's about it... If you watch it with the sound off... It's actually still pretty terrible... LBR

The problem is, having read the novel... uhm, SPOILER WARNING!... ....as I was saying... ...having read the novel, I know that's where Burton (or the studio) got the ending from. However, the novel sets up the ending, and the film doesn't. The film shares none of themes or characters of the book, so why they thought they could transplant the ending I have no idea. END SPOILERS My biggest single gripe with the film is that it is clear Burton was handcuffed here. Burton never identifies with the heroes. If Burton was making a Burton film, you know he would have been sympathetic to the apes. Hell, I bet he could make a great (albiet weird) version of the Ape Uprising, but its clear he couldn't get behind the underwear model. As for the novel, it made me appreciate Conquest of Escape From the POTA much more (that's the 3rd chapter, for those who don't know). Basically, Conquest Escape is the same plot as the novel, except it filps the roles of people and apes. Did I say Conquest? Shame on me. Conquest is part 4. Escape From the POTA is part 3.

Not having read the novel, I assumed that the ending of Burton's POTA was simply an alternate reality. One of those wormhole, multiple universe things. In that universe, our history was lived out by the apes (the Ape Lincoln). Any of the depth of the story would have been flushed out in the sequel that never happened (not that the movie really warranted a sequel).

Time for me to re-read the novel! I remember it sharing more with Escape than Conquest, with the ape/human thing reversed. There has been some talk of rebooting Apes with a remake of Conquest. Last I heard, it is to be called "Caesar" and currently languishes in development hell.

That was supposed to be Wahlberg's Earth - when Tim Roth's monkey went into space he went through the portal, back further in time, and changed Earth's history. The problems with this are too numerous to go through, and I really wouldneed to rewatch the film again inorder to remember them all. Please do not ask.

Already fixed, though the original error remains as I deserve to be reminded of my shameful blasphemy. I will say that Conquest is one of the films that I would most like to see remade. There have been rumblings about a film called "Caesar" in development hell at FOX that would essentially do just that.

If Apes is to be rebooted, I think a remake of Conquest would be a great introduction! Star Trek and Apes, both franchises thriving again...my Geek heart would BURST!!
