A highly enjoyable and informative show. The 16x speed commentary is an excellent idea; just long enough to cover the bases and not so long or detailed that it drags. Hope you stick with this approach.
The original NOTLD was OK. No more than that for me. I enjoyed the 1990 remake more.
I bought the Dawn tie-in book to read on holiday when I was a teenager even though I couldn’t go and see the movie. I loved Dawn when I eventually saw it in the 80s, but I’m not as wedded to it as others are. Maybe because I haven’t revisited it since then.
Day didn’t work for me. Generally I don’t go for post-apocalyptic movies as they stray from what I think of as true horror and into the realms of fantasy and sci-fi, which I’m less interested in. Plus, the evolution of zombies into domesticated, semi-sentient beings (a la Bub) detracts from the purpose of zombies. To my mind, they should be mindless, relentless, carnivorous corpses. If you are turning them into creatures that can handle weapons, formulate strategies and be “tamed” you lose the “dead-ness”. At that point you might as well ditch the idea that they are revived corpses and simply make them aliens or some other kind of monster.
Having said that, your enthusiasm for the subject has rekindled my interest and I’m going to rush out and buy a copy of the original Dawn to sit alongside my copy of the remake. I’ll probably cave in and stump up for Day too while I’m at it. After all these years it deserves a second chance!
