Like our Losties in their sideways afterworld, I was not ready to listen to this episode until today. Unlike our Losties, my reasoning was more to my desire to re-watch the finale opposed to some deeper need to move on. Anyway, I really enjoyed the conversation; particularly the "recap" before you watched the finale and your list of "wow" or "wtf" moments throughout the series. I think MrD's segment at the end (and his replies here) answered a number of points that were brought up during the show. The only thing I can remember to add was that the wheel in the stained-glass window is a symbol of Buddhism and/or Hinduism. It symbolizes their belief in the circle of life (birth - life - death - rebirth) on the road to enlightenment.[/color] Thanks Gary! The fact that both the Buddhist symbol and afterlife concept were made literal on the show (the wheel and sideways verse) I think strengthens the notion that at least this part was planned out in adavance. As for the bird, it seemed an Archaeopteryx to me, that somehow got caught up in the islands temporal shenanigans.

As for the bird, it seemed an Archaeopteryx to me, that somehow got caught up in the islands temporal shenanigans. Whatever it was supposed to be, it seems to me that it was one of the many things thrown in that they never got back to answer (or it was always meant to be a red herring). Either way, I wonder if it will be mentioned in the August DVD/Blu-Ray. As for my thoughts, I figured it was meant to fit into the mythological theme of the show. Horus in Egyptian Mythology could appear as as a bird. As could Zeus. Also, there is Quetzalcoatl.

I was fine with the ending personally. I think for some it's been a bitter pill to swallow that the answer to a lot of the questions is "it was a magical Island". That's fair enough.
Flip that around though. Ask the question first. What if a magical Island existed - an Island of immense power that is more than likely the gateway to the life force of the planet? What would happen?
I find pretty much anything included in the show could be explained, or have basis for good theories and observations with that as a starting point.
Take Dharma as an example. At the end it all seems a little irrelevant, but in the reality of that universe, a scientific team investigating and potentially trying to exploit something that they don't really understand is a very logical real world reaction. In the end science was wiped out by the movements of those acting on behalf of the magical side of the equation. We saw Dharma wiped out a couple of seasons ago (if I remember rightly), so to find that they didn't really figure in the explanation wasn't a problem for me. Their story had already ended.
