Crazies (2010). It showed me something I've never seen before and justified my fear of the automatic car wash.

Yeah, I'm with you with the car wash thing.... didn't mind the remake. Now I'm kinda curious about the original.
Must say, I'm looking more and more forward to Elm Street... Freddy is scary again! (Robert Englund is still forever "my" Freddy, though.... but I like what I'm seeing of the re-imagining).

Speaking of The Crazies, I myself am about to go see that in about 30 minutes. Judging by what the trailer was like, it looks like I will probably enjoy it. We shall see.

Just saw The Crazies myself this weekend, I liked it though going to see it on a Saturday night reminded me why I go to the theater so rarely--obnoxious theater goers. That might have ruined the experience for me because the constant talking and giggling at inappropriate moments just sort of killed the tension on screen.
A friend of mine told me the original is more focused on the military side of the issue and it lacks the tension the remake brings--but it's still worth a watch he says.
Agree on the car wash fear as well!

I haven't seen the remake of the Crazies yet, but since it's come up I figured I would throw in my 2 cents on the original.
I really like it. It has that low budget appeal that all of Romero's films seem to enjoy. It's definitely character driven, and from what I can tell from the commercials takes place on a much smaller scale than the remake. To put this in context, in the original the "crazies" are confined to one small town. Throughout the film, there is an ovewhelming threat that if the problem can't be contained, they may have to drop a bomb on the town, and destroy everyone in it. Kinda like Outbreak, but much better and with fewer monkey's.
I think Romero is trying to ask the question "who are actually the Crazies?" Is it the innocent people who have become infected? Or the military powers that be who are willing to destroy their own people to clean up a mess they made.
Keep in mind this was made before George became so heavy handed with his social commentary.

Saw The Crazies last week and wasn't too impressed. Sure, the cast and crew put out a fine looking film, but I was put off by the over-reliance on jump scares and the totally ludicrous final ten minutes. Not bad, but glad I was in a free preview. And I might have some slight hearing loss now, as the woman behind me shrieked at every jump scare. By the end of the film, people several rows down were turning to look, as her pitch got louder as the film went on.
Ah, the joys of modern cinema going.
Just re-watched The Howling and love how well the movie holds up. The "self-help" satire is spot on, the acting is top notch and the effects are amazing (with one notable exception that actually would have been better in CGI; imagine that).
If you haven't seen it, it's really worth checking out.

just watched xmen origins: wolverine and boogeyman 2. I love these two gems and feel that boogeyman 2 doesn't get a lot of respect. Tobin Bell is great as a psychiatrist. Oh Tony and Ted i love this new setup. Its so easy.

Crazies is on my list. If I don't get to go Wednesday, though, I may have to wait for DVD.

Crazies had an odd mix of tension, terror, humour (both intended and not) and ambiguous answers all while selling a message without being in your face about it. Specific sequences definately elevate it beyond the standard template.

Prompted by a thread on the previous forum, I watched 1956's The Werewolf. Pretty standard stuff--basically it's just a rehash of Universal's Wolf Man franchise with a very de rigueur sci-fi twist (it was the '50s after all) from the director of Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers. But, if all you want is more of the same with a few original touches (the tortured hero has a family this time around, for instance), wrapped up in a solid execution, it's recommended viewing.
Also, I haven't seen The Crazies remake, but I was terrified of car washes as a kid. Maybe that explains why my car is always so dirty now that I'm an adult. Or maybe I'm just lazy.

Saw the original Crazies waaaay back when. Me and some chums rented the video one night. I recall a lot of blood and little else, but I was very very drunk.

I just watched a strange little film called "Left Bank" last night - I still don't know whether to say I actually liked it. It was a slow burn and the payoff is there at the end for sticking with it, but the ending was a little ambiguous. At least to my little brain Has anyone seen this? Also I should have "Book of Blood" from Netflix today. I read a not so great review on it but being that it is Clive Barker-related & I love him as an author it is my duty to watch it...and of course I like to form my own opinion thank you very much!
