For a nightcap, I watched Tentacles. It is what I pretty much expected, a cheesy 70's man v nature flick; heavy with it's moral message, light with nearly everything else. It is close to an "it's so bad it's good" flick. Two things to mention. 1- I was surprised by the number of kids killed off in this flick. 2- The giant "squid" in this flick was a real octopus, filmed to suggest it was larger than it really was. The end sequence of the film pitted a pair of whales fighting the "squid". The way they pulled this off on film was laughable. They used miniature whale dolls to attack the real octopus. Funny stuff.

In the last few weeks I've watched some oldies:
Police Academy - with the kid. Holds up well enough. Totally forgot the BJ scene at the podium. Was a little awkward watching with the kid. What are you gonna do.
The Cannonball Run - thanks to Chin Stroker and Punter's commentary, I had to throw this on just for a late nite fix. Fun, especially with beer.
Evil Dead II - hadn't seen it since the 80's. Better than I remember it.
Army Of Darkness - hadn't seen it since the 90's. Not as great as I remembered. Still good, though.
The Dark Crystal - hadn't watched since the 80's. Excellent. Holds up very well. But I'm a big Henson fan.
Tron - awesome visuals. But still boring.
I weekly watch L O S T ! Love it.
And I'm reading (finally) The Watchman. First comic I've read since I don't know when. Wanna read that before I pick up The Walking Dead.

I fially got around to seeing Shutter Island last night. I wasn`t terribly impressed.
The visuals were very cool. No complaints there, and the acting was great. I was especially impressed by some of the supporting cast Both Elias Koteas, and Jackie Earl Haley impressed me in small roles.
The stoy was mediocre at best. I had some real problems with the ending, but I can`t find the spoiler button in the new forum. So, I guess I can`t really say much more. I haven`t listened to this week`s episode yet. So, maybe the guys will cover my complaints for me.

To go a little off topic, I'll pick up on Doug's comment...
No, we haven't installed a Spoiler button yet (or the ignore function). These features plus the frankie icons are what I miss - if any savvy internet folks out there might know the process to install those upgrades we're all ears.

Ted, I just sent you a PM with a link of a guy who looks like he had the same problem with the spoiler. Hope it helps.

Watched a few movies on Hulu last night, and a freebe from Redbox:
The Final Destination: If this one didn't drive the nail in the coffin for this franchise, I'd be amazed. The kills are okay, though the heavy CGIed opener was surprisingly dull. What killed this film is the lack of decent character development and actors who seemed to be at the level of a high school production. Seriously, one of the trimmed scenes appeared to be cut for no other reason than the acting was just piss poor. Sure, character development is not a high priority for these movies, but at least the second one had me rooting for the characters, not just waiting for the next kill. I watched the 2D version, but I don't think the 3D effects would have saved this one. I suggest avoiding it, unless you have to see all four.
Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell: Figured this to be a slice of cheesy fun when I saw the title on Hulu. Okay, if you're even remotely interested, consider yourself warned and STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!! Released by Troma, I had some hope as they ran a truly campy trailer before the movie. Even the opener had me hopeful, as Lloyd spent a few bucks and tagged on some old Troma stock footage to tie the film into Tromaville.
He should have spend a few more dollars and recorded new dialog, a la What's Up, Tiger Lily. It might have made the movie tolerable. Troma must have picked this one up cheap and released it in a bait and switch move. The movie has awful acting, terrible action scenes (not much fighting, as the action is the main character running away from the evil leader and his mutant henchmen). Most of the fights are at the level of playground wrestling matches. And the dinosaurs are stop action at the level of Sidd and Marty Kroft. The movie doesn't live up to it's title in any way. Just avoid.
The Relic: Not a bad little monster movie, also available on Hulu. It's about a evolutionary biologist getting involved with a monster in a Chicago museum that rips off it's victim's head and eats a portion of their brain.
The monster doesn't appear until the end of about the first hour, but the film doesn't skimp on the gruesome remains of the victims. The effects are top notch, as is the practical monster (a combination of practial and CGI), all done by Stan Winston Studios.
Well acted for what it is, nicely filmed and a action filled last half hour makes this a nice little diversion. Not a classic by any means, but a fun film. Free on Hulu right now.

Since I'm on spring break, I've watched a few "classics"..... -Blade 3: The first 2 Blade movies are extremely solid, so I decided to see the 3rd, which everyone told me wasn't very good...I honestly didn't think it was too terrible. Snipes is still quite good at the titular role, the plot had some strong points and some weak points. Reynolds would have been better if he didn;t mistake cursing for wit. -Encino Man: huh. this movie is terrible. I forgot that it was terrible. On the plus side of matters though, Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir makes an appearance with his other band, The Infectious Grooves. -Halloween: Resurrection: Got it at a 5 buck Walmart bin...I guess that's the best thing I have to say about this movie. Busta Rhymes makes me laugh. - Twelve Monkeys: Wonderful movie, but the ending made me kinda sad. That might have been influenced by the "Diet Dr. Tops" I was drinking at the time. -Village of the Damned: The John Carpenter version. My personal favorite of Carpenter's films, actually, but I probably couldn't call it his best. Christopher Reeve and Mark Hamill baby!

In the last two weeks I've watched:
THE FINAL DESTINATION - Finally caught up with this. Watched in 2-D. Some bad CGI but overall I was there for the death scenes and I was entertained.
LAW ABIDING CITIZEN - I had fun with this one.
LAND OF THE LOST - The visuals were cool but I'm not a big fan of comedy. Just give me adventure and dinos minus the goofy stuff.
CLASH OF THE TITANS (Original) - Now this is adventure!! I love this movie and I'm looking forward to the new one too.
THE BIG SLEEP - Classic Bogart.
THE COLLECTOR - I've read a lot of bad things but I actually enjoyed this little slice of brutal violence and ridiculous traps. Great usage of Bauhaus.
PLAGUE TOWN - Very cool and creepy. Watch this late at night with all the lights out. It gave me the willies!

Blade- Not as good a I remembered it, and I didn't remember it being THAT good.
Blade II- That rare instance where the sequel is better than the original.

watched the Burrowers, quite liked it actually. really enjoy the idea of western horror but can only think of Ravenous and Ginger Snaps 3 to add to the western horror list.
suppose Survival may fall into that camp maybe but it would be cheating

Saw Tobe Hooper's Eaten Alive. Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre II, it's just...weird. Like, inexplicably weird.
You can check out my BLOG if you want my complete thoughts on it. ;D
