How can you have a good slasher flick rated PG or PG-13? I look on the back of any DVD case and look at the ratings. It has to have 1.blood 2.gore 3.nudity. On the other hand I will not let my 12 year old daughter watch any of those 3. Helps find scary movies for her to watch too. Honestly, I'm not sure the original Halloween wouldn't be able to get a PG-13 rating if submitted now. Blood was minimal, gore pretty much absent. I'm drawing a blank on boobs. So other than an f-bomb or two that would have to be edited out, I'm not sure it earns that R rating. Come to think of it, that goes for the Omen as well.

Is there not a topless scene in the opening murder, when he was a kid?

You see a bare boob in profile at a distance, then after the sister is killed, you catch a single boob through Michael's mask for a second. PG-13 movies are not to have "more than brief nudity" and such nudity is "generally not to be sexually orientated." The opening for Halloween seems to fit.

Gentlemen, You are forgetting one of the best scenes in the movie! Nubile P.J. Soles unwittingly presents herself to a besheeted Michael Myers with, "See anything you like?" and then is promptly dispatched with a phone cord (remember those), magnificent boobies flailing about with her death throws. Ahhh. Good times.

That's the scene I think would keep Halloween from getting a PG-13. The nudity is sexual in nature and not exactly a brief moment in the film. Other than that, even the f-bombs might be okay (don't remember them in the movie, but I know you can get away with one or two in a PG-13 movie as long as it's not sexual in nature; and no mother prefix!), depending on the mood of the MPAA board.

So then I think it is fair to say that Halloween, if it did get an R, it would be a fairly soft R, and while many adolescents might weep if we covered PJ buxom bosom, it reallywouldn't have made the film fundamentally worse if, say, she wore a sexy bra, and thus provides at least further circumstantial evidence that a PG-13 horror film can be effective.

Yep, I think that sums things up so far.

Watched a good documentary called "This Movie Not Yet Rated" on Netflix. Very informative and interesting on this topic. I would say it is a must watch if you ever question the ratings system. www.imdb.com/title/tt0493459/
