In which case you head for the castles and forts, places designed for long term seige defence. Hmm. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we see Arthurian legend rewritten to encompass the undead. I think I just came up with a rejection-proof screenplay idea. If you include a scene where people flee the zombies on horse's relieving themselves, I think it would be rejected. Yet memorable.

crapping on horses chased by oncoming zombies?? - i think might sell ...
However during a slow zombie invasion (zombies that aren't known for their speed, strength or intelligence) i suggest some form of truck ('semi' as i believe they say in the US). Crammed full of supplies, medicines, weapons, energy creating equipment, useful books, and water/water purification stuff. Then drive up to Scotland (in UK). If you do this ... 1 - You can hide in the strong truck-trailer and zombies cant get in. 2 - When you do settle and the zombies subside, you can drive somewhere remote enough so that other survivors don't chase you and kill you in that post apocalyptic survivor way.
Granted you need fuel - that is plentiful in petrol stations on the way.
BUT in comparison ... During a fast invasion . - find a hole/cellar, dig yourself in and hope they die before you do.

In which case you head for the castles and forts, places designed for long term seige defence. But there's always the question of food, and the chance for group dynamics to screw everything up. That's what makes the slow zombies so scary. People should be able to defend themselves against a bunch of shamblers. In fact, an apocalypse should be easily avoided, except we always end up screwing ourselves. Eventually, we tear ourselves apart as a group, fighting amongst each other as the zombies slowly march into the encampment. Or, we think ourselves superior to the enemy, then find ourselves surrounded after the zombies show us the lapse in our "perfect" plan. While fast zombies are a rocking good time (the DotD remake was a lot of fun), comparing them to slow zombies is like comparing a Big Mac to a 5 course meal. Fast food is quick and tasty, but lacks any substance and is often forgotten soon afterwards. A fine dinner is slower, but it allows you time to appreciate the meal, how the different courses are tied together and compliment each other.

In which case you head for the castles and forts, places designed for long term seige defence. Mind you. You must be sure the Zombie population does not find you, congregate and create the ramp effect against your walls. Eventually/possibly they may still get in.

I prefer slow zombies in the sense that they are animated dead. Everything is slower, that's why they are mindless? maybe? I just like slower. I agree they have that creepy silent fright going. Running dashing jumping zombies just don't strike me right. It's like the whole romancing of vampires. Its just wrong dangit!

Definitely depends on the type of movie that's being made.
The single location numbers game movie mechanic works really well with the slow zombies. The humans kill them off in droves but are themselves slowly whittled away. But man, I nearly shat myself when the (zombie-like) rage infected people showed up in 28 days later.

I'm old school, I like the slow zombies. As so many of you have said, it's the creeping dread, as opposed to the immediate danger, that makes zombie flicks so good. I'm not a complete hater of the fast ones, but with fast zombies usually comes that third person shakey cam I hate so much. If you're gonna go through the trouble of zombie makeup and effects, hold the damn camera still and let me see it!
