Hey everyone! I am new to the forum and was wondering if anyone has interest in hearing the guys do a podcast focusing and Godzilla and other "atomic horror" movies? There certainly is enough material there for a show, from the original "Gojira" to "Them" to "The Incredible Shrinking Man" to"Planet of the Apes" to "The Day After"...the list goes on and on.

I'd second a Godzilla show. Godzilla is what I cut my teeth on. My most prized childhood toy was my Rodan (until I got me an AT-AT after ESB).

My best friend in fourth grade was an uberfan of Gojira. I never really got into it, but I wound up seeing a lot of the movies, playing with the toys, and reading the comic books, as a moral support kind of thing. I even watched a few episodes of that terrible cartoon, where the monster looked nothing like Godzilla and had an annoying sidekick that could talk, Gadzookie. Gag.
One of my most vivid memories from that time is the cover of a comic in which Godzilla quite amiably shows up after the Titanic sinks to warm up the water with his urine fire breath and thus enable more people to survive. I admit it would have made the James Cameron film more interesting.

"Atomic Horror" seems too broad a subject to tackle all together, but I love all those kinds of films. I would gladly tune into a giant monster or Godzilla podcast. That's a pretty massive undertaking itself when you consider all the eras that the Godzilla franchise has been through from 1954 to the present.

Just imagine...Godzilla, plus the Titantic...plus James Cameron...plus 3-d! Quite possibly the end of civilization as we know it!

History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of man.
Godzilla!
Oh, no. There goes Tokyo,
Go, go, Godzilla!

P.S. According to IMDB, "Unbeknownst to many people, [Akira] Kurosawa had always wanted to make a Godzilla film of his own, but the executives at Toho Co., Ltd. (the Japanese studio that produces all the Godzilla films) wouldn't let him because they feared it would cost too much."
IMDB isn't the most reliable source in the world, but what an interesting film that would have been.

This is a fantastic idea! The Kaiju genre is one of my favorites, ever since my mom introduced me to Godzilla when I was very young. I can remember staying home sick from school and watching Godzilla marathons as far back as the fifth grade. I think I still have some VHS recordings. The original Japanese film is an extremely poignant piece of cinema, very reflective of the fears and tribulations of the times, and I really think Tony and Ted could do the film justice. The episode could center around the juxtaposition between the horrific, intense atmosphere of those early Japanese films and the relative light-hearted treatment of the atomic threat in the American film counterparts. I would be very excited for an episode like this!

I remember years ago reading a Tarantino interview in which he said he'd have loved to do a Godzilla movie from the point of view of the people in the street. Sound familiar?

Resurrected to add another "me too" Though while I understand Godzilla may not be everyone’s cup of tea how about a general giant monster episode? Godzilla, King Kong, The Host, Tremors, Attack of the 50ft Woman, Daimajin, Gamera, Tarantula, Cloverfield, Monsters etc.

Add me to the want to suggest/listen list.

Godzilla and Gamera definitely deserve a HorrorETC discussion. The newer films of the 90's and the millennium series are very entertaining and have some pretty impressive special effects.
