Should have checked the new topics list before posting in my own thread.
I don't get the BBFC. There are distribution channels that ensure that only those who are prepared to watch a movie can do so. Video on demand and online retail both require credit cards. Kids don't use credit cards. Given that movies like "A Serbian Film" and "Human Centipede" are being sold solely on their obscene and graphic content, it is ludicrous to assume that someone would see this movie who wasn't prepared, on some level, to take it. What are they trying to do? Protect our society's moral health?

I believe that people should be able to make up their own minds about what they see.
I certainly don't think that the BBFC should be passing critical judgements about films they've previously passed. Labelling Tom's first Centipede film as 'tasteless and disgusting' while banning the follow-up seemed to be an unnecessary kick in the teeth.
It also seems odd that they're taking it so seriously. The first film was fairly tongue in cheek (probably not the best turn of phrase!!) and there's no reason to believe the follow-up would be any different.

An empty gesture. The BBFC are a hangover from a bygone age when cinema-goers had no choice but to accept their self-righteous judgments. Times have changed. All they can achieve now is to generate interest in movies that wouldn’t otherwise register on most people’s radar and encourage piracy.

I think societies have the right to set their standards, but a small beaurocratic board isn't the society. Let the people decide for themselves if this is worth watching, ignoring, or outright rejecting.

I hope Tom Six sends the BBFC royalty checks for all the free advertising they've provided him. While this will drive horror fans in Britain to piracy, it will drive up legit sales in other countries.
