A curse be upon you. This week we take a look at the legends behind supposedly cursed films through history. Where does one draw the line between a series of unfortunate incidents and the intervention of an otherworldly force to derail or punish a production? Ultimately that's for you to decide but we lay out the facts for each case that gave rise to the mythology. Particular films covered include Poltergeist, The Omen, The Crow, The Exorcist, Superman, The Twilight Zone, The Conqueror, Rosemary's Baby, Atuk and many more. It was a fun discussion trying to separate bad luck from paranormal divination where we go off the script several times and Anthony digs deep into his bag of impressions. The classic format returns as we enjoy an interactive schlock corner guessing the ABC's of Monsters, and get casual chatting about a variety of subjects including a return to Hunger Games, The Horrible Dr. Hitchcock, the impressive list of foreign horror film recommendations received, and open a care package that arrived from a listener. The 2000AD contest concludes and we announce the winners - thanks to all who participated. Oh, and we're now available on Stitcher. So keep looking over your shoulder as it seems you never know when the forces of the universe may come for you, and please don’t direct your curses our way, we'll promise the same in return. As always we welcome your comments: horroretc@gmail.comVoicemail (206) 337-5324

Still listening to the episode. Just wanted to throw in that Heather O'Rourke died of complications due to a misdiagnosis of a long-term illness. Specifically, she had an obstruction in her bowels that was diagnosed and treated as Crohn's disease. The lack of proper treatment resulted in her becoming septic which led to cardiac arrest. She did die during surgery, but the cause of death was the damage from the earlier cardiac. And her manager was the one to throw out the influenza cause of death rumor, for whatever reason (PR move maybe? I never heard officially why). Anyway, I love the topic of "curses" in Hollywood. Can't wait to get more into my earholes.

A couple who do not believe in curses is Superman actor Henry Cavill and Ellen Whitaker. After Reeve's misfortune of all the models and actresses and sportswomen and girls next door and Mother's recommendations you have to choose from would you tempt fate and marry - - - a professional show-jumper? Don't have a superstitious bone in my body but that gave me a shiver when I read it.

Another great ep guys!
I remember back in 93, there was a tiny article published in Entertainment Weekly about how The Crow had a "curse" on it due to all the on-set accidents, and a few weeks later Brandon Lee was shot. It sent shivers down my spine.

I wasn't aware of the problems regarding The Omen, that is crazy, even if the details regarding the car crash sound too "sexy" to be true. What really disturbed me was the definition of Creepy Crawling, I don't scare easy, but that just sounds terrifying.

Another good episode! Listening to the discussion of the Manson family sneaking into houses just to rearrange the furniture and leave literally made my skin crawl! I was so creeped out I was looking over my shoulder the rest of the night at work lol. Also it has been pretty entertaining how Ted has been so incensed by the whole Hunger Games phenomenon than he is reading all the books and has gone to see the movie (Ted, I was wondering, even though you seemed to be miserable throughout the whole movie, what did you think of Jennifer Lawrence's performance?)

Finally listened to this while out for my jog tonight. I am now terrified to live alone - I can't blame moved items on my cat anymore, because I'll always be suspicious.
I never realized that The Crow had so many other accidents. I wonder if there is ever a point where the filmmakers say too many bad things have happened to continue moving forward, or is it the drive of the almighty dollar (to at least break even or make a profit on the film) that keeps them going even when so many different things go wrong?
And holy crap on the film that Belushi, Candy, Farley and Kenison all died after being named to! Wowza!

I was reading the latest issue of Rue Morgue while I was listening to this episode. I thought it was funny as the show was discussing Poltergeist at the same time I was reading the main story with an oral history and interviews with people who worked on Poltergiest. In the magazine they talked about the use of real cadavers in the pool scene. I think it was one of the special FX workers said in the magazine that it was hardly "cadavers". It was real skeletons that high schools used to use for biology class, with makeup built on it.

As our primary motivation is to make our podcast available to more people via multiple options rather than make money from advertising, we don't share the same concerns as Mr. Chen.

True, just thought I'd point it out regardless I guess (also noting the idea that they are actually profiting off your work).

I listened to this podcast walking down the street, and I literally LOLed at Tony's "John Wayne and the glowing rock" sketch, causing passers-by to edge nervously away from me. Brilliant eipisode.
