{No spoilers, please!}
Anyone know what's up with [oREC] 3? It was supposed to be released May 11 in the UK but has not trickled up to my backwater. Did it die a death in London and get pulled?
Unfortunately Piranha 3DD was not pulled. It is even more rubbish than threatened. And that is 'rubbish' as in 'boring execrable crap' not as in 'entertaining trash'. The original idea of not releasing it in the UK was the right one - fan clamour backfires badly. Sorry to you in North America awaiting its imminent release there - believe the disappointment and saves your money. (And I went to see it TWICE - I genuinely did not believe it could have as bad as I first thought on first viewing and decided that I must have micro-napped through my Friday morning inital screening. So I went again. That was the longest seventy minutes of my life. 'Tree of Life' and 'Melancholia' raced along lickery-split by comparison.

I've just seen the first Rec and I loved it; I have the DVD of Rec 2 in the post to me right now, and from what I've heard that's a good one too, so I've the usual mixture of hope and trepidation in approaching the third. I'll give it a look, come what may.

If I remember right I liked the 2nd one better than the fist and I really liked it.

You'll be disappointed with [REC]3: Genesis. It was an okay movie to kill 90 minutes, but it wasn't a good movie. They pretty much turned it into a comedy-horror and not intentionally. Basically, it is no longer a zombie-type series ... it has become a demon-type series.

I wasn't thrilled with [REC]2. Didn't think it was awful, and a few moments were very chilling, but the sudden shift in the second act felt awkward, and the inclusion of more characters seemed forced.
Not sure why [REC]3 shifted the setting away from what happened in the apartment, unless the story somehow connects to the final film. Haven't heard anyone raving about it, but it seems worth a look when it hits DVD.
And I've heard it's getting a limited theatrical release after the On Demand release, at least here in the States. It might happen elsewhere, though I suspect it will be in smaller, arthouse-type theaters.

I saw REC3 at horror hound yesterday and I really enjoyed it. It's not amazing by any stretch but it's a very fun horror/comedy and a great movie to see in a festival setting.
However I didn't have any expectations going in b/c I haven't seen the first two yet unfortunately =/

<weep> Euarh! Just watched it. Bugger me gently with a chainsaw. The theatres were correct - this isn't even a straight-to-video job this is a straight-to-Poundland. Fucking terrible. Absolutely nothing to compare with the first two. Makes Descent 2 look like Aliens. Makes 3DD look like the Magnificent Ambersons. Makes Quarantine 2: Terminal look like [oRec]2.

(Spoiler wrapper for those who haven't seen Rec 1 and 2 (and they still should): Surely it is already revealed as a demon/demonic possession at the end of the first and confirmed during the second one? )
