Had an idea for a future podcast if you so desired, and that is underwater horror, a favourite sub genre of mine. Ever since Jaws creatures from the deep have unsettled me. There's a wide range of movies, everything from Jaws to Open Water, Tentacles to Shock Waves to Sharkoctopus etc. Hey there's another podcast, the Jaws movies, though after the first it would become tiresome.

Jaws 2 has its moments, but after that I agree. They should have gone with their original plan and made the third one a spoof.

Marine horror will happen - it has been planned for a long time. Check out episode #41 (I think) for our Jaws + other sharks episode...just don't tell Doug

You can also achieve that claustrophobic/isolated stuff that you get with space or arctic horror when you're underwater. I'm not sure if this is actually a good movie because I saw it when I was ten, but "Sphere" scared the crap out of me when it first came out--particularly this scene where Queen Latifah was stung to death by a big cloud of jellyfish. That would probably qualify.

There's that whole "Hey, let's all rip off The Abyss" craze that struck in 1989: Leviathan, Deepstar Six, The Evil Below, Endless Descent (a.k.a The Rift), Lords of the Deep etc. I've always wondered, why The Abyss? Surely it would have been more economically viable (not to mention cheaper) to rip off Look Who's Talking, Batman or Honey, I Shrunk the Kids?
