What is dead may never die. The second season of HBO's ground breaking adaptation of the Song of Ice and Fire series has come to a close and with it we have called together our panel from episode 202 (season 1) to discuss it. Book 2, titled A Clash of Kings, brought an array of new characters and locales while expanding the scope of the story begun in the first book/season. As we have come to expect, the show delivered intrigue, scheming, maneuvering, complex plot threads all set against the fantastically realized settings and locations of Westeros. And one more thing season 2 delivered (finally)... warfare! The second novel offered up action in the climactic battle of blackwater bay and HBO delivered on it very well. The approach to the episode was to discuss the events of the season in a very general way by way of spotlighting each of the main characters, all wrapped with commentary on the themes of the overall story. The book to show comparisons are weighted toward the first half hour of the episode before directing focus more to the show itself. Spoilers are withheld for future events but a warning goes out for season 2 - it's a very open discussion of everything that took place. I'll have to finish reading Clash of Kings before I listen to this one. I'm 300 pages in thanks to the podcast I promised myself I'd never start another billion page fantasy series after Wheel of Time but you guys made it sound too enticing... I will admit I've really enjoyed it so far, and I have the summer off, so I'm hoping to have Storm of Swords finished by the time I start back with classes.

First off, I got into GOT via the podcast so, thanks guys for that original episode. My preference is to watch a season before reading the book, so I’ll be starting Clash of Kings this week.
You guys just touched on The Hound briefly, but he’s becoming one of my favorite characters. He obviously has some moral code that keeps him looking out for Sansa. I get the feeling she may regret not escaping King’s Landing with him when she had the chance.
Tywin Lannister is also a completely badass character. I love that he lets his horse shit just outside of the Throne Room, as if to say “You may sit on the Throne, but I’m running the show now”.
Lastly, having gotten used to the show fading to black just before major battle scenes (a move I’m totally okay with), actually seeing the Battle of Blackwater Bay was just jaw-dropping! The show writers were great at dropping hints and laying the groundwork for everything that comes to fruition in the final 2 episodes and you can see that in the way the battle unfolds.
Once I’m done with Clash of Kings, it’s going to be a long wait until April 2013… Oh well, Dexter starts in September and Walking Dead in October…
