Greetings from Raleigh, North Carolina! This is Steve. Not much of a forum poster, but thought I'd introduce myself in case I wanted to chime in at some point.
As with most of you, my first real exposure to horror films, proper, was Halloween on HBO back in 1980 or so. I was pretty young, so I'm surprised my parents let me watch it, but my Dad liked Jamie Lee Curtis, so they figured it was okay. It has become a Halloween family tradition. I was later exposed to The Thing and Alien in a similar, albeit more "covert," fashion. I'm SO grateful for HBO!
I wasn't a stranger to the genre prior to HBO, however. Psycho and the Birds were always favorites of my family, as well as Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?
It wasn't until I could rent movies on my own that I discovered "meatier" things like Friday the 13th, Hellraiser, Sleepaway Camp, C.H.U.D., Basket Case, etc. There's nothing quite like browsing old faded VHS horror tape covers in a wood paneled Mom & Pop video rental store.
Although I'm more of a Sci-Fi fan, I have a huge collection of horror and have been getting into even more of the classics thanks to HorrorEtc. My true passion, however, is anime, so perhaps I can join in on some discussions there.
I look forward to seeing what goes on here!
Steve
