Tough, tough choice... near impossible for me... which is not surprising, considering they are all a brainchild of Sir Whedon.

Kaylee, followed extremely closely by one Mal Reynolds. And Jayne. And Wash. and Zoe. and Sheperd Book. and everybody else...

Easy enough for me. I never seen Firefly and only watched Serenity once. I really don't recall the characters enough to make my vote count, let alone know who I was voting for.

Man, such a tough choice, but I have to go with Mal. No one but Whedon could create a bigger duffush hero with such a strict moral code, yet such a sucker for family in all it's forms.
He edges out everyone strictly based on the airlock scene with Jayne. Great character moment.
And, I'm just wondering, why all the posts when only two people voted?

I have to go with River. I adore woman that can kick some serious ass.

Like 'em all but, at the moment I'd rate them:
1. Kaylee: Smart, cute (which always works for me more than "hot"), able to be both girly and tomboyish. Just about my perfect woman. 2. Jayne: One of the most unique characters on television. Big, gruff muscle who is... big, gruff muscle. Not the "boy in a man's body" or "gentle giant" we so often get. And he's honestly stupid, not "TV stupid". 3. Mal: And another one of the most unique characters in television. Somewhere between hero and anti-hero. You know that moment in Raiders (of course you do) when Indy shoots the swordsman? Mal is that moment personified. 4. Wash: I identify with the guy who's primary contribution to the group is "smart ass". Plus the portrayal of his marriage was one of the most believable I've ever seen on tv, especially in a genre show. 5. Book: Love Ron Glass, and I love the idea of a priest (of sorts) being a primary character in a SF show. Add in the mysterious background, and he's a guy who could probably carry his own series. 6. Simon: Probably dead last on most people's lists, but as much as I relate to Wash's smartass-ness, I relate to Simon being the straightest arrow in the room. Also hard not to like someone with such fierce loyalty to his sister. 7. Zoe: Strong woman, loyal officer, loving wife. Great mix of traits. Sort of Saul Tigh with tits instead of alcohol. Just not someone I'd find much in common with. 8. River: Yes, she's cute, she's smart, she kicks ass - that should put her one up on Kaylee. But she's also nuts, which in most episodes tends to relegate her to prop or plot device. 9. Inara: A lot to respect about the character, but I'm more with Mal where it comes to the profession. Also, which I grant her hotness, exotic glamor never worked that much for me (actually I find her hotter in V). Add in the whole "high society" thing, and she's the last person on the crew I'd want lunch with.
