I was pretty excited to hear there will be a sequel. Also there will be a director's cut of the original with an additional 20 or so minutes so hopefully some of those plot holes will get filled in a bit.

I've got no real appetite for a sequel (sequels?). I thought Prometheus was OK, but a standalone prequel would have sufficed.

Why stop with one when you can have three? When it comes to sci-fi/horror more is always "more" as far as I am concerned. ^_^

I do believe his name was John. I thought his review was great. I was so excited for the film and it just let me down. I'll give the director's cut a chance when it comes out, though.

I LOVED Prometheus! Good for you! No one is saying you shouldn't. Do you see any threads here saying "Prometheus sucks! Stop the love!"? Not even close. But no one was saying it had to be. Plotholes, thin characters, piss poor science and implausible behavior, all in a film that is pretending to be deep and thoughtful. It deserves the scrutiny because the film begs for it. So are fingerpaints by toddlers. Cannonball Run 2 AvP 2 Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 Mannequin 2 Weekend at Bernie's 2 What's your point?

I don't really think any of the behavior was that implausible. David hated many if not all of his shipmates. It was shown throughout the course of the film.
Elizabeth and David were the main characters of the film and they were not "thin." How fleshed out do all the characters need to be?
Take "The Thing" for instance. EVERY character is paper-thin, but nobody gives a shit about that.
It is important to note that this was NOT an ensemble piece. The first half of the movie was Fastbender's, the second half was Rapace's. While the other characters may seem like they should be more interesting, or more fleshed out, they are all tertiary figures, and relatively unimportant compared to "David" and "Elizabeth."
The only character the movie deserved more of was Charlize Theron's and I think that may be b/c she is such a commanding presence in the movie more than the story needed more of her. Hopefully we'll spend a few more minutes with her in the director's cut.
The only question I really have is why was it a secret the old man was on the ship. I'm guessing that was meant to be revealed in a sequel though. Some may feel that is cheap, but to me that is like saying Game of Thrones is cheap b/c we don't find out who tried to have Bran killed the first book when there are 7 more installments to go.
In my view Prometheus is the best genre movie of the year so far. It's hard to top the visual flair of a big budget sci-fi movie. David and Elizabeth were great characters, and the violence in the film was pretty awesome...and seriously, Alien C-section! What movie is going to top that scene any time soon?
But also this has been a fairly mediocre year for horror. The only really other horror movies that impressed me were The Divide and Cabin in the Woods. Most everything else has been "good," but hasn't really blown my skirt up.
I understand that not everyone liked Prometheus. Not everyone likes everything.

I liked AVP 2 just for the blood and fighting and multiple chestburster effects and the predalien. I am a fan of this movie. Me putting up this post shows that I am a GEEK to the world. Oh give me your address I'll send you a giant facehugger in the mail.
