"A friend with weed is a friend indeed but a friend with gold is the best I'm told" An episode dedicated entirely to the Leprechaun franchise? In what possibly became our most divisive recording session to date, we attempt to convey what this series of films are all about and try to get to the bottom of why anyone would watch them. In a room containing a true fan (Doug), a Leprechaun malcontent (Ted) and someone who watched the movies just to impress a girl (Tony), the subject became hotly debated. It's the story of a mythical creature of lore obsessed with a small pot of gold wreaking havok upon those who dare to cross him, told at a rural cabin, in a city, in Las Vegas, in space(!), in da hood, and in the da hood again - six films with a reboot on the way. In the absence of plot complexities, notable filmmaking techniques and striking performances, we discuss the ridiculous concept at the heart of it all. Whether you are a fan or not, stick around until Ted finally loses it and blows up at Anthony. As always we welcome your comments: horroretc@gmail.comVoicemail (206) 337-5324

Damn. had hoped to have rewatched them before this episode came along. I passed by the boxset so many times in recent weeks then went to go buy it last week and it was no where to be found. It wouldnt have been so bad if Id not had my hand on it 4 days previous. Either way, this should be fun

Today I watched an episode of Warick Davis' Lifes too Short, then he was on a gameshow tonight over here in the UK now I've just listened to the podcast. Im having a very unintentionally heavy Warick day.
The dynamic of the guys made this one of the funniest episodes in a while. Good stuff!

As for why Iron is used in the movies as a means to fight the Leprechaun.... I think I can explain why, but is a bit confusing (so bear with me): I'm told iron has been used in exorcisms (which it was probably why it was used in the movies) and the reason for this was b/c of a verse out of the Old Testament Judges 1:19 The LORD was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had iron chariots. This is a bizarre verse no matter how you look at it. I don't know an orthodox interpretation as to why iron somehow warded off YHWH, who is commonly known to be "all-powerful." However, in the second century some Christians (Marcionites first, and Gnostics soon after) viewed YHWH either as a false image of God or in some instances literally as a demon (known as the demi-urge or Yaldabaoth). This was b/c YHWH did things like kill children with bears, tell Abraham to sacrifice his child to him, destroy the world with a flood, and commanded the Israelites to kill women with children in battle etc. Typically things you would not associate with love and mercy. So b/c of this, I am told iron was used as a type ward against evil in exorcisms or similar instances, since it drove YHWH out in the book of judges. So this is all pretty much way more complicated than every leprechaun movies combined, but there you have it

So, because I had forgot to finish listening to the last festival of fear episode it followed after I listened to this.. Now, why do I bring this up you ask? Well Ted in talking about the West Memphis three said something about their alibi or lack of and how his time wouldnt be able to be accounted for because he couldnt prove he was sitting at 3 in the morning watching Leprechaun movies alone.
....but after this episode theres one thing im certain of.. if Ted says hes been up all night watching the leprechaun films he has most definitely did something he shouldnt have.

Nearly every time I look at the picture for this episode I get that "Lep in the hood, come to do no good" song stuck in my head.
