Back to it! Ted and Tony are back in the saddle to bring you a packed episode shooting from the hip. Catching up after several weeks on the go, we present a mish mash of topics, and you're bound to find something to enjoy! It's ham meets ham as Tony goes to Montreal Comic Con to screen his film and gets to meet the one and only William Shatner. Ted goes in search of Bigfoot, but all he finds is a crapload of disappointing found footage movies (The Lost Coast Tapes, and Evidence). Remember the iconic 1978 TV movie Devil Dog? Dexter season 7 is underway (and its shaping up to be a good one). Its official: Ted has been replaced with an alien counterpart... and it watched a new episode of Dr. Who(!) Discussions of V/H/S (more found footage !?), the classic Killer Clowns From Outer Space, new Rob Zombie, the intriguing premise of Chernobyl Diaries, the superficial 'documentary' The Haunted Boy, a bunch of strange twists and turns - and sharing a Nasty Habit. Yup, its Horror Etc... business as usual. As always we welcome your comments: horroretc@gmail.com Voicemail (206) 337-5324

Tony, I don't normally criticise but until you watch at least one episode of Sherlock you are not in a position to praise Elementary.

Great show, guys.
Have to agree. Both Tony and Ted should check out the BBC production of Sherlock regardless of Elementary. It's excellent!

That pic really made me smile... I dont know why Also Ted pretty much summed up my thoughts on V/H/S though Id have liked to hear what he had to say with more spoilers thrown in. The Ty West one was my least favourite, totally agree that the last and first were the best.. I didnt really like the Tues 17th one either. Decent idea badly executed I guess.

Hello! I haven't posted here for ages... But this episode has forced me back! Because I really have to take issue with Ted's review of "Evidence" - a film that utterly blew me away when I saw it recently. I did not think it would be possible to watch this movie without having a similar reaction, so was very surprised by the luke-warm reception it got on the podcast. I'm going to spoiler the hell out of this, I'm going to do that because I'd hate it for anyone to have chosen not to watch on the basis of the podcast review. I found a couple of spoiler free reviews - would heartily reccomend reading them instead of what I'm about to ramble on about... lovehorror.co.uk/evidence-2011-reviewwww.dreadcentral.com/reviews/evidence-2011...but if you are happy to be spoilered then I shall quickly do my defence of the movie. I thought it was one of the most audacious and successful attempts at utterly subverting a genre I have seen in horror for some time. Extremely timely too because if there was ever a subgenre in need of having its conventions given a kick up the ass then it's the all pervasive 'found footage genre'. We start off extremely deliberately with a semi-improvised 'blair witch' style movie... I mean REALLy blair witch style movie... every checklist and cliche being marked off (including, it should be said, a lot of the things criticised on the podcast! I think the deliberatness of this was missed.) and if you enter into this movie blind, as I did, then you are left thinking you are watching a very cheaply made blair witch knock off... ...which is precisely what is intended - an extremely clever way of manipulating our own expectations of what we're about to see that is flipped completely for the final half hour of the movie when it turns into a giant Lovecraftian headfuck, as all of a sudden we find ourselves no longer lost in the woods listening to creepy noises but in the massive floodlights of a hidden military base where lovecraftian experiments have been taking place and we realise the 'scary scratching' type shenanigans we'd been suffering through before are the tip of a full on hell risen iceberg. From that point on we're almost one long relentless continuous shot as the truth of what's really happening is hammered at us. The boys mentioned the reliance on cash-in movies forgoing storyboard and script these days and evidence is the complete opposite of that - this final thirty minutes is so incredibly tightly choreographed and planned out as our hero runs from zombie filled set-piece after set-piece with texas chainsaw-esque relentlessness that it took my breath away - not least because it was seemingly coming out of nowhere. This wasn't so much a plot twist as a genre and film-making twist and I utterly applaud it. Even more clever was how rather than being a cheat the clues to this finale had been layered in from the very first second of the movie and I don't just reccomend watching it once, I reccomend watching it twice to see just how cleverly you were led up this path. Okay, bit of a ranty post I know! Sorry, but I really would like to make sure its given a chance incase anyone was put off checking it out. Peoples opinnions are subjective of course yadda yadda yadda. x

I was happy to hear Bigfoot discussion on the show. I've always wondered why there isn't a definitive (or even good...) Bigfoot movie. It seems tailor made for found footage, but personally, I'd rather see it shot in a traditional style. Backwoods horror is a great sub-genre and is ideal for Bigfoot. Throw in some crazy rednecks and sympathetic campers, and the movie practically writes itself. You can do it Tony! Get on it!

I'm still fairly new to listening to the podcast, but after this show I think I've figured out the Horror, Etc. formula.
1. Ted goes on (probably legitimate) rant about the film in question.
2. Anthony defends the merits of film in question. (In a sort of "well, it wasn't that bad..." sort of way)
3. Ted continues rant.
4. Anthony sides with Ted.
Am I onto something, here?

For Bigfoot fans, check out Abominable, if you haven't yet. It's the best Bigfoot film I've seen in a long time. Some great walk on roles by Jeffrery Combs and Lance Henriksen, Tiffany Shepis finds a reason to take a shower and the titular Bigfoot is very hungry. Throw in some great practical gore and a great poster, and you've got a classic, underrated horror flick. Check it out!

I'm not sure where Tony wanted the Terror of Dracula pics posted, but I found a copy here at the Family Video in Muncie Indiana. I'll have to rent it out some time. [/img] Attachments:

That's wicked.... bravo to Family Video. And look - it's a two-niIght rental, just in case your mind is blown the first time you watch it ;-)
Thanks for sending the pic!!
As for Sherlock (BBC), folks --- I promise I'm getting to it!! Keeps evading me, for some strange reason. The whole thing is quite odd - I know I should be all over it.... it's comin', I swear :-)
Cheerio, A
