Welcome to an episode spotlighting the genre output of Spain. As we have done many times in the past, we love to focus in on a particular part of the world to discuss and explore the unique and original takes on horror a country has to offer. Spain has a long and prolific history of contributing to the genre and as such it was impossible to attempt a summary, instead we share a selection of recent watches from Spain and touch on some of the key figures in the industry such as Guillermo Del Toro (yes, we know the difference between Spain and Mexico), Paul Naschy, Jess Franco, etc. and look at some of the specific thematic stylings inherent in the work. There is a lengthly list of titles name checked to refresh our thoughts on Spanish films we have already covered along the way including Timecrimes, The Orphanage, The Uninvited Guest, Rec and many, many more. The new additions include Emergo / Apartment 143, Fermat's Room, Julia's Eyes, Sleep Tight, Shiver, Tombs of the Blind Dead, Fragile, La Cabina and several more. So pour yourself a Sangria and join us in what we envision as the first of what could be several episodes exploring the rich history of Spanish Horror. Rounding things out is a schlock corner looking at the first official trailer for World War Z, as well as some discussion of Skyfall, Star Wars and an obscure Fulci film House of Clocks. As always we welcome your comments: horroretc@gmail.com Voicemail (206) 337-5324

Good to see the Ted & Tony combo back together again (especially so soon after Tony's letter indicating he might not be on the podcast so much). There's a definite chemistry there that seems to work. For Cartoon Network aficionados, Ted = Mordecai & Tony = Rigby. Ted = Finn & Tony = Jake. I especially enjoyed the brief discussion of Paul Naschy. I'd heard that name before, but had no idea that this actor was so accomplished, having played so many different parts. Now I feel like I really need to take a look at one or two of his films.

Great episode! If you´re returning to the subject in future episodes check out spanish grindhouse-slasher/giallo Pieces (1982) if you haven´t seen it. www.imdb.com/title/tt0082748/Super-entertaining! Don´t watch it sober.

Been hoping you’d do a Spanish episode for ages and this was a good overview. As you say, it’s a big subject and you couldn’t hope to cover everything in one show. I hope you follow it up with a Paul Naschy retrospective. As a longtime fan of the Blind Dead series I’d like to hear your take on that franchise too.
