I have to admit I'm looking forward to 2013. This year I think has been a little lackluster as far as horror goes. There were quite a few movies I thought were good, but nothing that really blew me away.
I have a feeling next year will be much better. Just looking at what is coming up gets me really excited, looks like a good mix of new movies, remakes, and sequels:
The Conjuring Insidious 2 Maniac Antiviral Human Centipede 3 Lords of Salem The Host 2 Pacific Rim Evil Dead Suspiria Horns John Dies at the End Dead Sushi American Mary Sharknado Return to the Class of Nuke'em High Toxic Avenger The Green Inferno Leprechaun: Origin The Quiet Ones The Last Exorcism 2 REC: Apocalypse Carrie Hellraiser All Cheerleaders Die It Game of Werewolves

Don't be surprised if some of those on your list (It, Hellraiser, for example) don't come out, as most are speculative at best. And I'm a bit disappointed the list includes so many sequels and remakes. I get the idea that most story archetypes have been told time and time again, but what makes a tale interesting is a new take on it, not a rehash meant to garner an audience off name recognition. Still, Evil Dead does look fun, Pacific Rim should be a blast I can't wait for John Dies at the End. Though my goal is to see more genre films in 2013, I still get the sense this will be another "meh" year for horror. Of course, I reserve the right to be wrong. And Cthulhu knows, I hope I am.

I guess The Conjuring is good enough that it is getting pushed up to compete with all the summer blockbusters. I really think James Wan might be the new Master of Horror, especially if Insidious 2 is anywhere close to the original.
I enjoy sequels a lot so I can't complain about that. I'm a little meh on Carrie, It, and Hellraiser remakes but I think they'll be fun rentals, especially compared to the stuff I usually end up renting lol.

I plan to see Carrie in the theaters, as I'm curious where a woman director will take the material. Not that DePalma's film was bad, but I'm interested in where a woman will take the material. Should be interesting...
But that's my problem with sequels. Rather than take the story into someplace different, most are satisfied to deliver the same old stuff, as if to placate fans of the original film while making bucks off the name.
Evil Dead looks crazy, so it's another I'm looking forward to watching in the theaters. And John Dies at the End seems to be something totally different from anything else out there. But too many of the films on the list seem to be shallow money-grabs, or (as in the case of The Last Exorcism) franchises pushed down the throats of fans hoping for something more original.
While I plan to support genre films more next year (as my budget will allow it). I plan to be very selective. It's a good list, but not the one I was hoping for.

I wouldn't argue at all the list could be better. I'd personally like double the quantity without any more remakes. Plus I'd like to see another 2-3 directors with the talent of Wan and Del Toro, plus at least one or two more directors pushing boundaries and buttons like Rob Zombie.
I have to admit I'm actually really looking forward to The Last Exorcism 2. I always think sequels can be special if people put the creativity and care into them that they deserve. The first one ended when shit was getting really crazy, I think that would be a great starting point for a second film.
I know Lucky Mckee gets a lot of respect, and I'm absolutely looking forward to what he's doing with "All Cheerleaders Die," but I'm not 100% sold on him as of yet.
I think I forgot to add in a movie called "World's End" or something like that, which is another Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movie, which should be another good one.
I'm hoping we get a good influx of foreign horror, like last year. There were so many awesome movies that really came out of left field and made the year memorable, i.e. : Valhalla Rising, Troll Hunter, Attack the Block, The Last Circus, and I Saw the Devil. There was almost nothing like that this year except for a few decent ones like Kill List, Dream Home, and The Loved Ones, but nothing that really knocked my socks off like last year.
Livide still hasn't gotten a dvd release, and that movie looks really awesome. There was a J-horror movie called "Rabbit Horror 3-d" or something like that that I'm hoping will be something memorable. Hopefully those will come out next year.
All in all I still do feel optimistic, especially considering that The Human Centipede 2 is probably one of the only movies that came out this year (technically last year I know, but still) that horror aficionados will probably still be talking about 30 years from now.
