Horror in stop-motion. It is a age old method of presenting fantastical images on screen born of necessity from a time before the technology of CGI, and has enjoyed a resurgent popularity in recent years. The horror genre is a fitting one to offer the unique look and feel of stop motion imagery as it so often creates a sense of unease. As it is a subgenre which appeals to young and old alike, a previous guest host returns to the show to present a unique perspective on the success of stop motion horror. We picked a cross section of modern films offered up by the industry beginning with The Nightmare Before Christmas and moving on to Corpse Bride, Coraline, Paranorman and Frankenweenie. Aside from the artistry to appreciate in bringing inanimate objects to life, 2012 gave us a pair of films that revelled in their homage to the genre and many classics that we all know and love. We hope you allow your inner child to come out this week and enjoy a lighter discussion on a fun subject. In closing, we find out how well certain genre favourites play for a younger generation including the Indiana Jones series, X-Men and Batman, the Back to the Future series, Avatar and Lord of the Rings. Stay tuned for our return to proper horror talk next week. As always we welcome your comments: horroretc@gmail.com Voicemail (206) 337-5324

"That's just how I work"
I'm assuming Alexis is your daughter, Ted? :-)

That was a really great episode. I love how you are carefully introducing horror to your daughter. She sounds like she's gonna be a fan.
I wish I had done this with my daughter. She won't purposely watch a horror movie, I have to trick her into watching by putting them on when she's in the room and she slowly gets into them.

I think its Teds niece. She appears in the Star Wars epp. as well. Anyhow, Dear Ted, what a well spoken, thoughtful, intelligent young lady. I'm not sure what the general consensus is with her as a guest host but you can tell her from me personally that I enjoyed this episode very much and look forward to her as a guest in the future.SHE GETS IT!!! She actually gets it.I dint know but this made me happy. There is hope. Thank you. Both of you. I mean it.

I was thinking niece as well from the Star Wars episode and the 'parents' comment. Either way, I have loved the episodes with her.

Can't wait to hear the episode, but based on your write up, I only have one question....
What, no Harryhausen? The Children of the Hydra were FREAKING SCARY AS HELL!!!!
I know, it sounds like the episode is dedicated strictly to full length stop motion horror, but it just feels rather incomplete not including the master of stop motion, as some of his creations are truly horrifying.
But, I've yet to listen to the cast, so maybe I'm off base a bit. Will catch it in the next day or two. And if I jumped the gun on this one, my apologies.

Ah, got it. Great episode, and not including any earlier stop motion films is understandable, given the guest host. Again, great episode!

Loving these Alexis episodes. I really hope you can do a few more, I'd love to see what she thought of King Kong 1933, and of course Frankenstein and Bride.
Really looking forward to doing this with my own daughter when she is old enough.
