For the love of god/gaia/Cthulhu, DON'T WATCH IT!!!
Horrid acting, jokes that go nowhere and product placement that will nullify any critics of Hyundia and The Walking Dead, this is an ill-conceived attempt to revive the movie on episodic TV. Yea, it's gory at times, but not worth anyone's time. Even for free.
Yep, I watched it so you don't have to. I loved the film, but this is a shallow cash-in. Fans of the movie deserve much better.

Although it hasn't been getting great reviews, I have to say I don't think this was done as a "shallow cash-in." As some may know, "Zombieland" was originally conceived of as a TV series, and when that didn't work out the writers were able to take it back from network development hell, rework it, and ultimately make it into a movie. Having listened to them/read them in interviews, I have to think that their intentions here with the Amazon pilot were not of the shallow, cash-in type. Sadly, it just seems things didn't turn out well with it according to many.

As some may know, "Zombieland" was originally conceived of as a TV series, and when that didn't work out the writers were able to take it back from network development hell, rework it, and ultimately make it into a movie. Having listened to them/read them in interviews, I have to think that their intentions here with the Amazon pilot were not of the shallow, cash-in type. Sadly, it just seems things didn't turn out well with it according to many. Having not heard the interviews, I can't comment on whether my "cash grab" statement holds true or not. Still, the countless on screen advertising (On-Star being the main offender, with 76 Service Station coming in a close second) made the plot feel more like a set up for continued advertising dollars rather than delivering a cohesive story. After all, they are traveling from the West Coast to the East Coast, guided by a mysterious On-Star voice. How often will she mention the company name during the (I suspect short) run of this series? I think she mentioned it at least 4 times in a half hour pilot. Sure, such advertising might have paid for some of the effects budget,. but the episode (in my opinion) felt more about ensuring a cash revenue than delivering a decent series. And I am aware of the TV origins of Zombieland, but that only points out what a difference casting for a one shot film can make, provided the budget is right and all. Maybe cash grab was too harsh, and I should have used shallow, pitiful or horrendous to express my opinion. Either way, the end result is the same. Again, I am not casting doubt upon the creative team's intent, but at some point in this production, someone should have cast some doubt upon the finished results and found a way to bury this stinking pile before it got to the Internet. At least that's my opinion. And while I will usually reserve the right to be wrong, I don't on this one. It's really bad. And I usually don't mind bad horror films, but this makes House of the Dead look like Citizen Kane.
