It seemed like a good idea at the time. We thought it would be fun to call back to our first episode to celebrate #300 by discussing the filmography of Rob Zombie. Unfortunately, Zombie is one of Ted's buttons and it ended up leading to a lot of heated commentary. Since 2003, Rob Zombie has become one of the genre's most polarizing figures. He has formed a dedicated fanbase who appreciate his visual aesthetic, unapologetic approach to visceral violence, and unique unstructured storytelling. He has also attracted criticism for many of those same elements of his filmaking, accused of self indulgence and style over substance. We certainly didn't bring the subject to conclusion as to which side of the fence people should be on, but we did manage to have a general chat about his works to date including the abstract, 'pure cinema' entry into the devil-cult subgenre The Lords of Salem. An apology from Ted: yes, I came off as a ranting, red-faced troll with a touch of obnoxious (particularly in the lengthy Halloween, H2 diatribe). That said it was not my agenda, it just seems to happen when discussing Zombie and Shyamalan in particular and simply ask listeners to have patience with me this week. We tried to hack the running time of the episode down substantially to make it tolerable but still... Also, this episode has an unusually extreme level of foul language compared to normal - fair warning. At least it is offset by Anthony with statements like "compromise your state of conscientious sobriety" and "orgasm of gratuitous violence" to help balance things out. We also share our thoughts on Star Trek Into Darkness at the end of the show (spoiler talk from 58:04 to 1:09:54). Finally, we send out our most sincere thanks to everyone who has chosen to listen to the podcast, participate and support us through 300 episodes. While we didn't make a big thing out of it, we still acknowledge it is a milestone we would not have reached without all of you! Just got back from a vacation visiting my parents in Florida, and come home to find another alcohol fueled ranting from Ted? HOT DAMN!!!
Sorry, Ted, but I love your rants. They might be extreme, but damn, they are usually spot on and quite entertaining. The Happening, the Leprechaun series, and now this?
CAN
NOT
WAIT!!!! ;D

so no one hates Lords of Salem as much as I did then? Have I went mad or have the rest of you? I had my hopes up before hand that Ted would destroy that film... It looks nice I can agree to that but its total fucking nonsense.
HAPPY 300!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on hitting episode 300!
Got chance to listen to this episode last night, a load of fun and extremely entertaining.
Ted - don't worry about coming across like an angry, red-faced troll - I always prefer listening to someone with a bit of fire in their belly rather than someone sitting on the fence so to speak...
One final point - there was a part discussing the remakes with that quote from Zombie referencing a band changing or something...? I mention this only as thats my general response to the question 'what do you think about remakes?'. I always say I treat them like a band doing a cover version of a song I like. It may not be as good as the original in a lot of cases but Im interested to see a different take on it. If it stinks, its not like its replacing the original, the original will always remain.
I think i waffled a bit there, sorry.
Anyway - great episode, looking forward to #301!

Don't worry Ted you came off fine. I liked The Devil's Rejects and the Halloween remake ,but I have to agree with you big time with The Lords of Salem. Also congrats on the 300th episode.

Only got through part of Episode 300 today, but I have to say Ted shouldn't worry about coming across like an angry troll. While I respect Tony's opinions about the film, I have to say that Ted echos my opinions about Zombie's film career. Yes, he's a great filmmaker visually, but he needs someone to completely rewrite his scripts and reign back on his "heavy metal" indulgences and desires to drop in actors with parts that don't advance the story.
I know we disagree on Friday the 13th Part 7, but keep the rants coming, Ted. It's nice to hear someone argue their point with passion, yet not degrade their opinion with profanity and pointless critiques. It's refreshing in the age of podcasting and I respect you for it. And I'd love to discuss Part 7 with you over a pint or two at some point, should we ever be able to meet.
Tony, you're invited as well. Both of you deliver a well thought out podcast, without sophomoric or snarky remarks, and it's what keeps me coming back week after week. Hope you can keep things going for another 300 episodes. Cheers to you both!

Congratulations on hitting the three hundred mark.
I must say that I like the contrast in styles of the presenters and I wouldn't let a few comments on Facebook make you overly self conscious. There have been occasions when Ted has been a little negative about something I like, but Tony has raved about it, and on other occasions Tony's been very forgiving of something I thought had little redeeming features and I've appreciated Ted telling it straight. Overall, I think this is what makes the show. Ultimately, I don't look for someone who is just going to mirror my own opinions and reactions back at me parrot fashion, and am perfectly happy to listen to good chat and opinions whether they chime with mine or not. It's important to remember it's often only the very negative who have the motivation to write these opinions up, the majority are not going to post every week saying that they are perfectly content (other than on this occasion).
Anyway great work guys, and I look forward to more Horroretc podcasts going forwards.

I am a huge fan of The Devil's Rejects. Iffy of House of 1000 Corpses (has moments but too much MTV style shots for my taste). Not a fan of the Halloween remake but didn't hate it. Avoided H2 like the plague. Looking forward to Lords. Having said all that Ted has absolutely nothing to apologize for. He makes some good points and was expecting a lot worse after I read the intro to the episode. Still think the Devils Rejects though is a classic. Even Ebert, who usually despised that kind of movie, appreciated it. You should read his review- www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-devils-rejects-2005

Loved the podcast, but have to wonder why you needed to put up a spoiler alert for Star Trek: Into Darkness. I know, some people don't want others to ruin the movie for them, but it's hard to argue about spoilers when most every plot point you mentioned was included in the official trailers, including the death scene. Yea, there's a shot in the second trailer that spells it all out, including the characters involved and their roles in the death scene . Yea, there's a shot in the second trailer that spells it all out, including the characters involved and their roles. Jeez, studios and filmmakers try to keep things so secret, yet have no qualms about giving away everything in a two minute trailer. It's why I didn't like The Evil Dead (most all the good stuff was online months before the movie, so it was rather boring at times) and am not in a hurry to see Star Trek, as I already had a good idea where the film was heading. Maybe some people didn't catch it, but it's hard to worry about spoiling a movie when the marketing does it for you. Great episode all around.

Not a fan of Zombie when it comes to movies. I liked devils rejects and the first half of Halloween but dont like Halloween 2 and hate house of a 1000 corpses with a passion. I stopped listening to a podcast because they did not give a warning before spoilers. I have to agree about trailers though. I have seen trailers that show clips from the final few minutes. The avengers trailer really really bothered me when I was watching the movie.

Congrats of hitting beyond 300 episodes and while it is polite of you to apologise for the vitriol I had a grand old time listening in.
