I am not a moderator nor do I have any official standing on this forum so therefore I am now going to make a decree!!! All new members must post here!! If you do not, we will have the United States Government spy on your cell phones!! Oh wait......, Ok, if you don't we will tell everyone on the internet that you love the movie Legion and watched the Director's Commentary!!! ;D Ok, I'm really bad at making threats but I really would like to see the new people post more so I'm going to throw this out. I want to know (and I'm sure other members of the forum would too) how you came to the Horror Etc. Podcast, how you came to love horror films in general and what are some of your favorite horror films and what are some lesser known horror films that you think other fans should see. I know some of you did this in the Introduce Yourself section but do it again, it's easier to get a conversation going here in the main forum. Just a reminder, check out the Games Room, the What You've been Watching/Reading section and Big Mac is in the process of getting our movie night back together but we lost the website that we were using to do that; so if any of you have any idea's let me or Big Mac know. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

It would be nice if new people actually posted. I'd guess only 1 in 50 contributes anything at all.

Hey! I'm a newbie!
I joined this forum just a bit ago, but I've been listening to the podcast for about 6-8 months now. I came across this because I'm a horror writer (short stories) and I was on the lookout for discussions about the genre.
I'm from the cornfields of Illinois (Normal, to be exact. Yes, that's the town's name), although I'm originally from a suburb of Chicago.
Love this podcast and all the hosts!

Have you published anything we can read?
And you really came from a town called Normal? That sound's like something from a Stephen King short story.
I can see the tagline now:
"In the town of Normal, nothing is"

Yes, the town really is called Normal... it's a "twin city" - the other town is Bloomington. It's about 2 hours from Chicago. And, sure, I love to self -promote I have a book out called In A Corner, Darkly (volume one). It's a collection of short horror/suspense stories. There's 15 and the book is a pretty quick read. I'm working on volume two. The way I describe them is, if Twilight Zone, Night Gallery and Tales from the Crypt got together, this would be their offspring. I was just up in Chicago doing a book fest (Printer's Row Lit Fest) a few weeks ago - it was cool. First one! This October, I'm going to Rockford, Illinois for another one at a Barnes and Noble. The book can be found on Amazon, for a steal at $12! I would say my favorite kinds of horror are: Old school Plot driven Character driven What I don't really gravitate to is: Zombie stuff Gore for gore sake Splatter Thanks for asking about the book! :)we

I added your book to my Amazon wishlist and I do have a question I've always wanted to ask a published author and since you are the only one that I "know", I will ask you.
Do you get any input on the cover of your book or is that chosen by the publisher?

Hey - thanks for the amazon add.... In my particular case, I went through CreateSpace - I was able to suggest a cover and they provided a few options from which to choose. There's a lot more of us "indie" writers getting away from the publishing "ivory tower", so to speak. While going through traditional channels to get a book out into the world is certainly still "standard", self-publication methods are gaining momentum and, might I add, respect. That said, I have a few reviews out there, including a radio 'podcast' one from Cabin 7 Productions, belong to the Chicago Writers Association, and have a second book coming out later this fall!
