I was watching the newest episode of the new horror themed show 'Sleepy Hollow', and I wondered what other people think of the new telling of the classic Washington Irving tale with the new supernatural horror twist to it?

Personally, I thought it was total BS. It is in no way a "new telling", since the only thing is has in common with the original is the characters' names. They even get the setting wrong; The Legend of Sleepy Hollow took place many years after the Revolution, not during it. If North Terrytown hadn't changed its name to Sleepy Hollow a few years back they'd probably have got that wrong too. I've given up on expecting any recent adaptation to portray Ichabod Crane honestly (props to The Wolf Among Us, though, good job there), but at least you'd think they'd honour the story a little; hell, even the Burton movie did that. A bit. I thought I might be able to accept it on its own terms, but I couldn't; it just didn't make sense. OK, so the Headless Horseman is one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Er, why? Even if we accept the American Revolution as the epoch-shattering, human destiny-shifting event that this story wants us to see it as, how was it ever tied to the Apocalypse in any way? If you're going to have a guy wake up after centuries of slumber to battle one of the Four Horsemen, wouldn't it make more sense for him to have come from the time when the Book of Revelation was actually written? And don't you think the Four Horsemen have better things to do than wander aimlessly around an 18th century battlefield before being killed by a passing soldier, or spook some kid in the woods? And what's with all the good witch/bad witch crap? You can't have your cake and eat it. Either we were right to hang and burn them, or we weren't. Make up your mind.

Well the good witch bad witch crap not only shows that not every single witch HAS to be evil. And the four hourse stuck around in the town because Ichabod Crane was blood tied with the first one, and was hidden by Katrina under a spell which didn't kick in till someone summoned the first horseman that he was bound to. Would you want to take over the world first or kill of any of those that might be the ones able to stop you, while getting the bonus of causing some destruction and death in the process?
I admit the Abbie character is a hard pill to swallow from time to time since she is so stubborn to admit that there IS something that isn't logical or black and white as most nonbelievers of the supernatural would like to think.
And also remember that the four horseman have a different title, (like one is called death and the second one is of the plague) and they know the bigger picture of what they are planning and we don't, so we are forced to try and figure it out along the heroes of the story. And as for honoring the story, we have yet to see it. (Hence last Monday's episode showed him first meeting Katrina and possibly the start of how Ichabod got to be part of Washington's army.)

I felt like the episodes were REALLY padded. Watched the whole first season. It's something that I think would have been much better in a 30-minute format, but a lot of dramatic television writers have begun to abandon that. I say it's entirely possible to have an engaging story in less than 30 minutes if they can still do it with short films in less than 10...but whatever.
Tried to give the show a chance, I really did. But every time I started it, I never felt like I was really pulled in.
