Themed Show Idea...
For many of us, our fascination with the macabre was cultivated in the safe environs of Saturday Morning cartoons. Scooby-Doo, Where are You? which came along in 1969, with its creepy intro sequence and monster-of-the-week themes, played like a kid's version of Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Yes, many of these episodes ended with an unmasking, which nullified the fear of genuine creepers, but, still, the imagery, mood, and atmosphere were a child's sandbox version of the harder stuff to which we would graduate later.
A themed show could be developed around Saturday Morning Horrors. Shows like The Groovie Goolies, Land of the Lost (with the semi-terrifying Sleestaks), Ghostbusters cartoon, etc.
Then there are the one-offs. Like when Bugs Bunny meets the witch or with the big orange monster in the castle. There's also the Karloff-voiced Mad, Mad, Monster Party.
Scooby could make up the core discussion and these other topics could round it all out.

Scooby-Doo! I remember watching this show alot and even a few episodes scared me. But you do have a point here in this post. Scooby-Doo was the show I think, (other then Batman and Tim Burton's Nightmare before Christmas) that got me comfortable with the macarbe.
