Note: While I personally consider "Star Wars" to be much more fantasy than sci-fi, many others would seemingly disagree so I will digress in this instance.

I went with Star Wars. Lightsabers. Need I say more?

I went with Star Wars. Lightsabers. Need I say more? Lightsabers are nifty (no matter how obviously problematic/improbable/impossible they are in reality), but they are about the only thing in "Star Wars" that is appealing to me.

I truly love both series for what they are. Both have their pluses and shortcomings. The laws of physics, for example, are routinely bent, broken, or ignored when it suits the need of the moment. SW explains it away with The Force (if they explain it at all): while ST throws out some scientific jargon that, unless you really know your physics, sound plausible. Considerations of reality are futile.
Bottom line, they both do what they do very well.

Perhaps, but at the end of the day, I still consider "Star Trek" to be ever so slightly more realistic than "Star Wars."

You should. One is based in a futuristic world while the other is based in a fantastic world. It's sort of like saying that "King Arthur" is more realistic than "Dungeons and Dragons".

As much as I think I prefer the original three Star Wars films to the Star Trek series, I think I would actually rather "inhabit" the Trek world. I don't think I would enjoy living under the control of the Empire. PS-this may be the geekiest topic I've ever seen on this forum and that's saying something!

I think that's fair... but you should probably point out that it's also the most awesome.... I think I'd side with The Trekverse... I never saw any washrooms in Star Wars, and I'd hate to live without them. We all know that there was at least one on The Enterprise

I'm in total agreement with you, bigmac, but just to play devil's advocate:

I'm in total agreement with you, bigmac, but just to play devil's advocate: I thought about that, but there is only one Princess Leia, and she won't dress like that under normal circumstances. However, somewhere in the Trekverse, a planet full of green women who don't mind getting down with Earthmen exists. I rest my case.

I rest my case.

Star Trek . . . not only for the green chicks, but because it's far more civil and less fascist. Now, if I had my own Death Star . . . without an exposed thermal exhaust port . . . then we might have a deal.
Good-bye, Ewoks!

Okay, the chance to kill every Ewok in the galaxy is tempting, but would the god/toymaker known as the Great and Terrible Lucas allow it? Not when toys can be sold. But I LOVE the thought! ;D
