MP3 Direct DownloadHorror comics...the saga continues. With some of the history and evolution of the medium covered off in the first installment we proceed with getting into a little more detail on many titles available to explore. Our second volume features another great interview with friend of the show Ken calling in to share a wealth of information on the subject. A number of titles are bandied about including further discussion of the great zombie series The Walking Dead. Many renowned writers and artists in the industry are discussed as well as references to their well known works for those seeking to explore the subject further. Our intention at the outset of tackling horror comics was to educate ourselves and bring in the experts to help shed some light on the path to follow and share their recommendations. Special thanks to both Ilke and Ken for stepping up to the plate! Correspondence solicited from the listeners a few months back are finally shared as well in a 40(ish) minute feedback segment where a comprehensive list of further recommendations can be found. Thanks to all who wrote in and shared their favorites. We wrap things up with a quick schlock corner Shatner sings wresting themes (yeah, we know...but how much Shatnre is too much really?), and remind everyone this will be the final week for submissions to win one of several great prize packages: 2 volume graphic novel sets of Judge Death and Caballistics Inc, a single graphic novel Storming Heaven as well as a brand new DVD release of Dr. Who: The Brain of Morbius. Thanks again to our good friends at Rebellion Press and 2000 AD for providing great prizes. We always welcome your comments: horroretc@gmail.com

Look forward to listening. Just moments ago I finished re-reading Walking Dead Vol 4, in anticipation of receiving the 5th book from Amazon, as well as the forthcoming tv series.
Which reminds me, Ted - what do you think should be done with the WD tv show? How much of the story kept or changed? I can't imagine a show that would be so brutal with its cast members. I mean, did you see issue 48 (the end of the prison saga)? That's a HUGE death or two in there, and I don't know that they'd have the balls to pull it off.

I'm looking forward to this episode after just finishing the previous comics special. I can't imagine a show that would be so brutal with its cast members. I mean, did you see issue 48 (the end of the prison saga)? That's a HUGE death or two in there, and I don't know that they'd have the balls to pull it off. I suppose, despite its faults, LOST could be seen as a TV show that isn't afraid to off its central cast. In fact, the original plan, as I understand, was for the Matthew whathisname's doctor character to be played by Michael Keaton; getting offed by the end of the pilot...

I loved this episode. I must also agree that the price of a single comic book have risen a lot. Especially with Marvel comics. 3.99 just for one issue. Thats insane. However, I choose not to buy very many Marvel issues because I like to wait for the graphic novel to come out. Oh and I would check out those smaller lesser known comics that you see on the racks that are either a dollar less or half the price of a Marvel comic. and I just icked up a witchblade graphic novel for 4.99. And its FANTASTIC!

The fact that they DIDN'T kill off Sheppard (yet - and its too late if they do it now) kind of shows they aren't that kind of show. Yes, they bumped off Nikki and Paolo and a whole host of 2nd stringers (most of whom come back in flashbacks/flashfowards/flashsideways), but Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Sun, Jin, Locke, Hurley, etc are all still wandering around the damn island.* By and large those that they did kill off are typical TV kill offs - unpopular characters, or actors who want to do other things. *Uhm, Spoiler Warning?

Always struggled with comics - had some friends into them who on a couple of occasions have leant me some classic graphic novels - batman, watchmen, from hell - assuring me I'd like them but they've always left me cold. Bad enough I'm usually done with them after 10 minutes but I also never find them as well written as people claim and the artwork, despite repeated protestations to the contrary, not exactly gallery level. When I close the books I always feel I've read a detailed story treatment rather than a complete tale.
After listening to the first comic podcast I borrowed Freddy vs Jason vs Ash and a couple of volumes of The Walking Dead. FvsJvsA I can only describe as appaling - please tell me this isn't regarded in the comic community as something special.
The Walking Dead... Now, something rather odd has happened here - a good few issues in and I've found myself utterly invested in the characters. Infact every few hours I keep putting aside a couple of minutes to read the next installment... I think I'm actually 'getting' one! Thank God for that!

Man, I gave up on LOST quite some time ago - it was just getting too silly (and not in a good way). The kill that took me by surprise, however, was Charlie - he was one of the most popular characters and they off'd him fairly early. Of course, you're right - he features as a 'ghost' (or whatever) quite a bit since his "death"...

I've been a fan of "The Walking Dead" for a few months. I got my hands on the compendium (I paid $37) and read the whole thing in about two days. Unbelievable - the world's longest spiral down.

Just becaue u can't afford something does not mean u can go put and steal it. I know that Marvel comics are expensive so why not buy the indie comics? Why steal art? Have u know shame? Pretty soon artists won't be able to make money. Please buy indie comics. quit stealing art. Here, have an invisible beer.

I know that. But thats not what I do. I do that with music but not art. I do not follow trends. I am a guy who follows his own path. I buy indie comics because they rule, especially Spawn and emo boy. All I am trying to say is buy 1 or 2 comics a month if u can. That way u still support the comic book industry. I didn't mean to come off sounding like all hollier than thou.

Music, comics, movies - They are all art. I personally don't see the difference between stealing one or another. There are as many starving musicians out there as there are artists.

its funny, I am a huge horror fan but tend to avoid horror comics probably because of bad experiences even though i collect comics. i used the walking dead iphone app to check out the first issue and loved it, will be heading to the local comic store soon.
great 2 parter and a fabulous intro to the world of comics, i have friends who are big comic nerds and have pointed them in the direction of these episodes.
wish i had have written in but as i didn't there are 2 series i feel worth mentioning. 1 is Jonny the Homicidal Maniac. JTHM is written by Invader Zim creator Jhonen Vasquez and is an amazingly written and illustrated 7 part book about a serial killer that sometimes randomly and sometimes very calculatedly kills folk. Like Dexter he will get into conversations with people while he kills them, though his conversations teld to go a little off kilter. Jonny was something of a goth icon for a while.
The other I would suggest is a series called The Invisibles. OK so this is not a horror comic per se, more of an LSD fueled and establishment merging reality war against the system. There are strong horror themes though out the series but it is not simple blood and guts horror.
I was really glad Alan Moores Swamp thing was brought up as I love that story.
Great show guys
