When will you guys do HELLRAISER? I've lost track of how many there are . . . could be a good way to turn everybody back on to the series.

I have to be honest when talking about this topic. I don't like the Hellraiser movies. I don't even like the first one. I find Pinhead to be a serviceable villain, but I hate the editing, production, music, acting (other than Doug Bradley), the writing is garbage....I could go on.

I am a fan. At least a fan of 1 and 2. I was in 7th grade the first time I saw Hellraiser and I thought I had seen it all as far as horror was concerned. Hellraiser was on another level, there is some serious gore and themes at play in that movie. It deserves it's seat at the table as an all time classic. I gave up on the series after part 6. I'd be psyched for a Hellraiser dedicated podcast.

Got to agree with saltychuck. I never liked Clive Barker as an author and certainly don't like him as a director. This series should have ended after the second film. how many times do we need to see someone open that stupid box, anyway? If it weren't for the Cenobites, there'd be nothing of value in any of these films.

I thought I and II were pretty damn good. III was not so good and I think by then the novelty had worn off for me. IV (the one in space) was a real drop in quality. Didn't bother with any of the rest. I'm guessing direct to DVD dross for diehard fans only? Curious about the rumoured remake/reboot and I'd certainly be interested in T&T's take on the series.

I love Hellraiser. As a mythology I think it's head and shoulders above all of the other iconic series of its time, and Pinhead as a single icon, I much prefer him to Freddy Jason etc, and I say that as someone who loves those icons.
1 & 2 are classics and stand alone really. Parts 3 & 4 are deeply flawed, but there are a few things to take from them.
As a potential podcast goes I think it definately should come up at some point, but how to do it? I wouldn't wish watching Hellraiser 5-8 on anybody.
A possibility could be to do it the same way you did the Romero episodes. The first four in one podcast that's generally positive, then the next four in another that will be much less so.
With a new Hellraiser currently in production, and a new actor playing Pinhead, now might be a good time.

I agree. There is a strange intelligence and perversion to the series (at least the early ones). Though they tried to make Pinhead an icon like Freddy and Jason, his persona retained a certain refinement and detachment. I say either:
1. Do only I-IV as those are executive produced by Barker.
2. Do a Barker episode.

I enjoyed the entire series, I don't care what anyone says about the later installments!

A Hellraiser episode would be great! The first one is great, has a real nightmarish quality. Parts 2 and 3 arent as affective but I think have their merits aswel. Havent seen any later instalments, ive heard they get repetitive but Pinhead and the cenobites are definitely worth discussing. I like some of Clive Barkers other work aswel, Nightbreed was pretty strange..

to people who don't like the first 2 hellraisers: did you see the sequels first then watched the original?
of course everyone's entitled to their opinion but i can't understand why horror fans don't like this movie. isn't originality a big perk, especially in the horror genre?

I'd consider Hellraiser 1 & 2 companion pieces. Both of them are truly horrifying and amazing. I've never seen anything like them since.

I LOVE the 1st Hellraiser movie, I saw it in the cinema several times. I really like 2 and think 3 and 4 are good solid movies (with a few flaws) while the rest I think are watchable. I think I would rather have a Clive Barker episode which devoted a large portion to Hellraiser and The Hellbound Heart. I almost like nightbreed as much as Hellraiser.

I have the whole series but have yet to work my way to the end and there is a new one coming at us with a new Pinhead and of course STD. After Part 2 the series drops down pretty bad There are good things about 3 and 4 but they are messes of films
