Since our humble (... well, at least Ted and our sometimes-Doug ) hosts have recently asked for suggestions on movies to watch or catch up with, I thought why not start an actual thread for that very purpose?! To kick things off, I have five film suggestions for Ted/Tony and, yes, even sometimes-Doug to check out if you guys haven't already... "Cure" (1997, directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa)"The Uninvited Guest" (2004, also known as "The Uncertain Guest," directed by Guillem Morales, may be hard to find in Canada since you don't have the mailing Netflix service)"w Delta z" (2007, also known as "Waz" or its U.S. DVD title "The Killing Gene," directed by Tom Shankland)"Spiral" (2007, directed by Adam Green (same director of "Frozen," "Hatchet" etc.) and Joel Moore)"The Children" (2008, directed by Tom Shankland as well)

I like this thread! Just got my hands on The Uninvited Guest recently after a craving for Spanish Horror, looking forward to getting to it.
The Children was covered in our Evil Kids show some time back and we got a voicemail review of Spiral not too long ago with positive commentary (was that misterd...?).
Suggestions are always welcomed, as I said before everyone could use help finding the gems.

Monsters. I'll be calling in about it soon.
Far down below B-movie quality, Ozzy giant-Tasmanian Devil movie Cemetary Gates. Enjoyable in a "God love them for trying" way.

The Children was covered in our Evil Kids show some time back Ah, right -- forgot about that. Sorry! There are at least three horror flicks titled The Children (1964, 1980, and 2008). I completely forgot which one they reviewed.

Thanks, K-Ted! I do try every once in a while. The Children was covered in our Evil Kids show some time back Ah, right -- forgot about that. Sorry! I can't remember half the movies we've covered after all this time. For about...oh 3 years, I've meant to put together some kind of cross reference or search method to match film titles to episodes. At one point I had to admit I simply don't have the wherewithall to do it other than create a manual table of contents list. Along those lines, I need to post a thread asking for some help ID'ing the movies covered in an episode when listeners are either going back through archive episodes or re-listening.

I dont think any of these have been mentioned on the podcast. Altered: Four rednecks capture the alien that abducted and experimented on them and attempt to torture it in revenge. Hilarity insues. Outpost: Nazi ghosts haunt an abandoned bunker in Eastern Europe. Mercenary team learns rifles highly ineffective against spirits. Infestation: No one stars in this fun, effective giant bug movie about a cities battle with....well giant bugs or alien bugs. Whatever they are, its all pretty fun. Insanitarium: Bat shit insane movie about a guy who checks himself into a insane asylum to find his sister and patients begin eating each other. Or something like that.

Unless you count Ray Wise from Twin Peaks as a star (which I do ) That was a surprisingly decent film, maybe do it in a giant bugs episode along with Starship Troopers, The Mist, and, um ... ?

I know Ted isn't a fan of Hammer but, should a second episode on the subject ever arrive, there are a few films he can use as an antidote against the tide of Gothic film franchises: The Nanny and Scream of Fear. Both of these, directed by Seth Holt, are low-key, black-and-white thrillers with a strongly psychological edge and a murky perception of reality. Both have more in common with Diabolique than Horror of Dracula and could also be discussed in another Terror of Monochrome episode.
One of jmodlinc's recently posted articles also pointed to a Hammer film called TheSnorkel which seems to have a similar tone, but I haven't yet seen that one.

THE LOVED ONES (2009)
This is a new flick from Australia. A girl's invitation to the school dance is rejected by a boy. The boy finds out just how pissed this girl can get.
There's a trailer floating around out there for this but DON'T WATCH IT. The trailer gives away a really cool scene of the movie. Plus, it plays that cover song of "Love Hurts" that is at the end of RZ's Halloween 2....and that song isn't even in the movie.
I think you'll have a lot of fun with this.

I know you enjoy a good documentary Ted, and I think this one from the UK about the video nasties era is one of the best I've seen for a long time. It's released on a set called Video Nasties: The Definitive Guide. It starts out as quite a warm fuzzy look at the video era, and then gradually tells the story about the witch hunt that followed as the establishment started to take notice of these films and hold them responsible for all manner of nonsense. The documentary does try to present both sides of the censorship argument, but apparently it was harder to get the pro censorship figures to appear, as they thought that they'd be stitched up and demonised. The doc doesn't do this, but the ones that do appear seem to do a pretty good job of it themselves at times. As well as the doc, there are two disks full of trailers for every film that was on the video nasties list with introductions by some of the best horror critics and writers in the UK. It's a good way to experience the nasties, because quite frankly a lot of the films on the list have been martyred purely because they made the list, and aren't actually any good. I can't recommend this release enough, it's both nostalgic and infuriating when you see some of the things that went on at times. It's hard to imagine that people actually served jail time for distributing films that are often quite laughable now. Anyway, here's the link, it's region 0 too, would love to hear you guys talk about this one. The nasties themselves might make a good basis for an episode. www.amazon.co.uk/Video-Nasties-Definitive-Guide-DVD/dp/B004BDZ0FC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293182673&sr=8-1
