Well, we tried. Our intentions were good. A Director's Spotlight dedicated to one of the great visionaries of our time. A man capable of delivering one of the (if not the) greatest sweeping epics ever put to film in the mind boggling Lord of the Rings trilogy while also giving us one of the most ludicrously entertaining pieces of genre insanity ever made with Braindead (or Dead/Alive). An eclectic roster of films along the way from Bad Taste (1987) to Lovely Bones (2009). Thing is...we met up with our good friend Kristianne and proceeded to have an awesome night out before sitting down to do some recording. So the main segment is a little discombobulated but the first step is admitting you have a problem so we're okay with it. Join in at 53:00 for the silliness to settle down but then you'll miss out on the most fun we've had recording a show yet. So what else have we got? Two pretty awesome schlock corner shorts this week: PIXELS - 2 and a half minutes of awesome. Although some may need to google the video game characters portrayed if they were born after 1985. THE GIFT - Warner Bros and Fox are reportedly battling for rights to produce a feature of this. A special effects demo reel? Maybe, but count mine as 1 ticket sold. Some more random discussion topics round things out but not before we finally get started on the Italian Horror road of discovery. The film festival has begun with Bay of Blood aka Twitch of the Death Nerve, Mario Bava's classic 1971 proto-slasher film. Big thanks to Patrick and Rebecca for contributing to the show and huge high five to Kristianne for being so cool. We always welcome your comments: horroretc@gmail.com

the episode was a much needed break from all of the factoids of the last few episodes. That said, the drunken female voice did a number on my ears!!! HAHA!!! It was a fun discussion though, glad you guys chatted a lot (probably didn't realize it then) about LOTR!!
Speaking of that, man did the studios drop the ball big time on the blu ray release!!!!

Yes, whatever you do, do NOT buy LOTR on blu-ray. It is a total scam. The release should include the extended cuts as playable options. Fun show guys. Kristianne is a welcome addition to your show considering how it's been such a sausage party. ;D And wow, she's got a mouth like a truck driver. Have to disagree about LOTR being the 'greatest' movie trilogy. In that arena, there can be only one. The original Star Wars trilogy is IT. imho of course. ;D Here's an idea. I'm in the dark about what's coming up for horror cinema this Spring and Summer. Would you guys be willing to devote part of the show listing what's on the horizon for 'scary' movies coming up? Definitely looking forward to "A Nightmare On Elm Street." peace.

Really love Peter Jackson (except for King Kong) and am glad a podcast finally devoted a directors spotlight to him. Anyway great show and loved the female perspective in the form of Kristianne.

Kensington Gore is the name for the bright red thick blood used in the Hammer movies.

I know the frustration of listening to an inebriated podcast...not so much fun when you're not in the room. Hope you can accept the indulgence though. I know I wouldn't trade in that night for anything. And besides after all, half the show was straight-faced.

I read the books as a kid but did not see the movies. In truth, I felt slightly betrayed that Jackson was doing LOTR and not over the top gory stuff. However, I may actually sit down and watch them now though.

Since The Lovely Bones was such a critical disappointment, maybe Jackson will attempt to atone for his cinematic sins a la Sam Raimi and do his own Drag Me to Hell.
Anyway, I did enjoy this episode. The inebriation made it only patchily incoherent and I liked the easy dynamic with Kristianne. I'd certainly love to see more unlikely one-off guest hosts in the future...which isn't to say I want less Doug on co-hosting duties, of course.

call me crazy, but i really enjoyed The Lovely Bones. I didn't realize until after, that it was from source material, and that may have helped me like it. There were, of course, some elements that i thought were pretentious, mostly in some of the spiritual tones, the waiting in some sort of purgatory, until her death was fully solved, etc. My spiritual belief treads lightly on those subjects, but, even disagreeing with that kind of concept, i still found it engaging for a story, and certainly a Peter Jackson directed film. BTW, they filmed this movie around where i live, and i recognized a lot of the scene areas, and my dad saw Susan S. and Mark W. walking around together while filming. This area near where i live has been used for tons of films, lots of M. Night movies are filmed out here (PA, btw)... one of my painting customers actually has a neighbor who's yard is used for M. Nights filming.. these kind of factoids help appreciate some films, but really, aside from its close by surroundings, i thought it was very engaging
