I just watched Prince of Darkness. It is one of my favourite movies of all time. It is one of the only movies that still has the ability to scare me a little and creep me out a lot. Does anyone else love this movie or is it just me?

Prince of Darkness is good but I wouldn't consider it Carpenter's best, that honor goes, imo, to The Thing. I did watch PoD on Netflix recently and was surprised by how creepy it was, since I remember thinking it was kind of cheesy the first time around.

Very good film.
For me Carpenter's best is The Thing, with Halloween close behind.
On the next tier I would have Escape From NY, Big Trouble, Prince of Darkness and In the MOuth of Madness.

my favorite will always be Escape from New York... but I haven't seen Prince of Darkness yet. I'll have to check it out when I get the chance.

Prior to seeing The Thing last summer (I'm so late to the party), my favorite was Halloween. But The Thing is my favorite so far. I haven't seen Prince of Darkness yet, but I do have the DVD, so I hope to give it a go soon.

Halloween is my top pick, with The Thing a close second and In the Mouth of Madness, Big Trouble in Little China and Escape from New York bouncing into third place, depending on my mood.
One of these days, I have to nail my third place one down, but not today.

The Thing...by far. The movie just has so much depth and ways to look at it.
Mouth of Madness doesn't get the credit it deserves.
Big Trouble is certainly the most fun of his movies and is the most 'rewatchable'.
BTW, if you get the chance, check out the commentaries of The Thing and Big Trouble with Carpenter and Kurt Russel. Very entertaining and interesting.

I saw this great vid of Carpenter taking questions at a horror con. Some jerk demands of him to account for the terribleness of Ghosts of Mars and Carpenter gives him the finger and tells him to, F*uck off."

I'm embarrassed to say this, but I totally forgot that Big Trouble in Little China is a Carpenter film. That is one of my favorite comedies from my childhood. I haven't watched it in ages, so I'll have to see it again soon.

I gave away (and sold) all my dvds. i will try and remember who got those two movies and if they were gave away I will borrow them back. I normally just stream stuff and have movies sent from lovefilm now

I too would put The Thing at his best with Halloween a very close second but I'm surprised that there's no love for Assault On Precinct 13, They Live, The Fog or Christine. I'd put any of those up against Big Trouble in Little China.

I don't think it's a lack of love, but that Carpenter's early works contain too many great movies to choose from.
